Zollner expands in U.S. with SIPLACE placement solutions
Zollner Elektronik AG, which is headquartered in Zandt, Germany, is a leading electronics producer with plants in China, Germany, Hungary, Romania and Tunisia. Starting this month, Zollner also produces in the United States in order to satisfy the demand for high-quality electronics products in North and South America more quickly and in even closer cooperation with its customers. Like all the company's other facilities all over the world, the new, state-of-the-art plant in Milpitas, California operates with SIPLACE placement equipment.
Beginning with Phase One of Zollner’s expansion, the four SIPLACE SX machines, which are equipped with SIPLACE MultiStar placement heads, are ideal for meeting the needs of a company like Zollner, a full-service provider who specialises in new product introductions and the volume production of PCBs, modules and complete systems in small to medium-sized production runs.
In connection with its new investment in California, Zollner Electronics, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Zollner Elektronik AG, is expanding its range of services and offers OEMs in the U.S. the opportunity to benefit from the more than 45 years of experience and the above-average service portfolio of a global leader in electronics production. Zollner Elektronik AG, which serves customers from a wide range of industries, specialises in the production of very sophisticated and demanding electronics products. Accordingly, the company's equipment must meet the same high standard. The placement machines, for example, must be capable of processing a wide range of components with high accuracy while being able to adapt to changes in the production schedule with great speed and flexibility.
Zollner has used SIPLACE equipment in its production facilities with great success for many years, but still evaluates what the market has to offer very closely each time it gets ready to make a new investment. The process was the same for the new plant, and after a careful analysis, the SIPLACE SX capacity-on-demand machine from SIPLACE emerged victoriously.
With its footprint of only 1.5 x 2.6 meters (approx. 5 x 8.5 feet), up to 148 feeder slots, many new software features like Virtual Product Build and its exceptional hardware flexibility thanks to full gantry modularity, the SIPLACE SX meets all the requirements of Zollner AG.
The highly modular concept of the SIPLACE SX platform played a particularly important role in the company's decision-making process, because it delivers the kind of speed and maximum precision which Zollner needs for its new product introduction and product changeover processes. The Virtual Product Build software, for example, minimises the potential for mistakes before the production even starts by verifying the placement program offline. As a result, the line functions trouble-free, starting with the first board. The SIPLACE MultiStar placement head, on the other hand, makes fast and nearly non-stop product changeovers possible.
It also provides optimised line balancing, because it can handle all components ranging from 01005 to 200 x 110 mm with equal ease by switching seamlessly from Collect & Place mode to Pick & Place mode. SIPLACE also won valuable points for its service and customer support.
